What usually fails on an X-Trail CVT

Most X-Trail gearboxes that reach us have one of three faults: a worn valve body, a slipping belt and pulley set, or a fluid problem that has already damaged both. The good news is that the valve body is repairable on its own — and that is a much smaller bill than a full gearbox.

Questions people ask us

Can the valve body be repaired instead of replacing the whole gearbox?

Yes, very often. A valve body repair is around Rs. 80,000 with a 3 month warranty, while a full CVT repair is a much bigger job. We only recommend the full repair when the belt and pulleys are already damaged.

How long does the work take?

A valve body is usually a few days. A full CVT rebuild depends on parts availability — we give you a date once the gearbox is opened.

Do you repair hybrid X-Trails too?

Yes. Hybrid CVT work is priced separately from non-hybrid because the unit and the testing are different.

Will the warranty cover me if the car overheats later?

The warranty covers our work. It does not cover damage caused by overheating, incorrect fitting elsewhere or an electrical fault — that is standard for every workshop.
